Data Entry
Please follow all of these steps. All you'll be doing is
entering your book information and e-mailing the file to us at JohnHeller@BooksForTheBlind.us.
If you would prefer mailing us a list, we'll take care of entering the data. It
does not matter how you get the information to us. However, if you do know
something about computers, it would be a great help to us if you would send us
the data either as an e-mail attachment or on disk.
1. Print this page. (Just click on your Print icon or click on
File and then click on Print.)
2. Copy the following lines to either a spreadsheet program like
Excel or Quattro Pro or a word processor such as Word, Works or WordPerfect. If
you haven't done this before, drag your mouse over the six lines in the table
below. Then click on Edit and then Copy.

(If you do not have a Voice book, for example, just leave the
space blank. Assign yourself an Agency Code. If there is a conflict, we'll
contact you. Please keep it simple. If you do not want to list a price, enter
anything you want to in the price column such as "CALL," "FREE,"
if the book is free, "PE" for paper exchange, or "LOAN" if
the book may be used, but has to be returned. Then, in the comments column,
explain what you mean. Or you could use your own page that we will assign to
you to explain what your abbreviation means.)
3. Open your Excel or Quattro Pro spreadsheet or Word, Works,
WordPerfect, Window's Notepad or Window's WordPad. You actually can enter your
information directly into your e-mail too (in power or graphics mode).
4. Paste what you have just copied onto your spreadsheet, word
processor or e-mail editor by either pressing Ctrl-V or by clicking on Edit and
then Paste. This will be your template in which to enter your book data. It
will look differently - don't worry. What's important is the data you enter,
not the way the column headings look.
5. Enter your book data just like the "Sample Book."
Include as many books as you like. There are no restrictions on book content.
Please help us by using the TAB key when entering information. (You probably
can't use the TAB key in your e-mail editor.) For example, after you enter the
ISBN, press your TAB key before entering the Title. This will work in
spreadsheets and word processors. It will really help us. Save! Save!
Save! You cannot save your files often enough.
6. Save the file and then close the file or exit from your
spreadsheet or word processor. Remember where it is saved.
7. Send an e-mail with comments, if you like, with the
spreadsheet or word processor file attached. If you do not have a way to
e-mail the file to us, save it on a disk and mail it to: Books for the Blind,
4809 Avenue N, PMB 134, Brooklyn, NY 11234.
We will add your data to our existing database for others to
see. Each time that you submit new books, do not list books that you have
already sent to us. If you are mailing a disk to us, save your data files on
your hard disk first and then onto the floppy disk before sending it to us. We
suggest this because your disk may get lost in the mail.
